Aylesford Third Order Chapter

In the Archdiocese of Southwark

Ever since 1949 when the Carmelite friars returned to their ancient home at Aylesford Priory near Maidstone in Kent, lay people have shared in the living out of Carmelite spirituality at this beautiful place of pilgrimage and retreat.

As Aylesford developed as a place of pilgrimage and meditative retreat, so a Chapter of the Carmelite Third Order Secular developed at "The Friars", becoming one of the largest Lay Carmelite communities in the British Province.

Meeting times
The community gathers at The Friars, Aylesford, normally on the 3rd Saturday of the Month. The usual format is: 10.30am Holy Hour (Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament); 12pm Mass; 12.45pm Bring-and-share lunch; 1.45pm Prayers, Meeting and Formation in Carmelite Spirituality; 4pm Close.
Though enjoying strong relations with the friars at the Priory and collaborating with the Carmelite Family in many ways, the Third Order has its own programme of events and formation. All interested in learning more about 'Carmel' are welcome.
