Mawdesley Carmelite Spirituality Group

This Lay Carmelite community in the Lancashire village of Mawdesley was founded in September 2007 and officially recognised by the British Province of Carmelites in March 2008 as a Carmelite Spirituality Group. The then Prior Provincial, Fr. Tony Lester, O.Carm., (himself from Mawdesley) placed the community under the patronage of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Blessed John Finch, a local martyr.

The group usually gathers at 7.40pm (until about 10pm) on the 3rd Thursday of the month for formation in the Carmelite tradition, social time, and Lectio Divina meditation on the Bible. Mass, for those who wish to attend, is celebrated in the Catholic Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Ridley Lane at 7pm.

The group of approximately a dozen includes professed members of the Carmelite Third Order (T.O.C.) and the Discalced Carmelite Secular Order (O.C.D.S.). All - including those with no knowledge or experience of Carmel - are welcome.
