On the 1st of April this year, the Prior General of the Carmelite Order, Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., took part in a meeting of the former pupils of the College of Santa María del Carmen in Madrid, Spain, on the occasion of the college’s 50th anniversary. In his address he underlined the commitment of the Carmelite Order to education around the world, and he recalled some moments from the time that he spent in this college as a youngster.

Accompanied by Fr. Mario Alfarano, O.Carm., the General Council's Delegate for the Carmelite Nuns, on the 29th of April, the Prior General led a celebration of the Eucharist at the close of the elective assembly of the Federation of Santa María Magdalena de Pazzi of the Carmelite nuns in Italy that took place at Sassone near Rome.

Likewise at Sassone, on the 26th of May, Fr. Fernando led the celebration of the final Eucharist at the ongoing formation course for nuns that took place from the 16th to the 17th of May, and had as its theme the life and teaching of St. Mary Magdalene de’Pazzi.

On 26th June the Prior General spoke at the Carmelite symposium that was held on the campus of “Loyola University” in Chicago (USA), organized by the Carmelite Institute of North America, that had as its main theme, the inspiration that Carmelites may find in the pontificate of Pope Francis (“Pope Francis points the way for Carmel”). In his address the Prior General recalled the different occasions on which he has met Pope Francis and the different challenges that these years of his pontificate present to Carmel. The participants at the symposium included the provincials of the Pure Heart of Mary province (Fr. William Harry, O.Carm.) and of the St. Elias Province (Fr. Michael Kissane, O.Carm.), along with many Carmelite and Discalced Carmelite friars, sisters, and laity from many different groups.
