Faversham Carmelites make appeal on behalf of refugees

Friday, 30 June 2017

The Carmelite friars at Faversham are part of a Refugee Solidarity Group that is making an urgent appeal to collect blankets and sleeping bags.

In their appeal the Group asks:

"Do you have a sleeping bag or blanket that you don't need?

Can you imagine how it must feel to be homeless? Your sleeping bag or blanket is your shelter, bed, comfort ... but if you leave it unattended it may well be confiscated, water sprayed, or pepper sprayed by the authorities.

The Faversham and Villages Refugee Support Group ask you to donate a clean sleeping bag or blanket in good condition, which they will take to Calais.

The former "jungle" has been rased to the ground. Human beings have been returning for months, joined by new arrivals, but this territory is forbidden to them.

You CAN make a difference."

Sleeping bags or blankets can be left in the sacristy of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church at 35 Tanners Street, Faversham (open daily 8.30am to 5.30pm), or posted to Refugee Support Group, Whitefriars, 35 Tanners Street, Faversham, ME13 7JW.
