Carmelite friars and laity took part in the Easter pilgrimage to Lourdes organised by HCPT (Hosanna House and Children's Pilgrimage Trust).
For over 60 years HCPT has been taking sick, disabled, and disadvantaged children and young adults to Lourdes on life-changing pilgrimage-holidays over Easter week.
The Carmelite helpers came from the British and Irish Provinces: Fathers Damian Cassidy and Joseph Mothersill, and Lay Carmelite Johan Bergström-Allen, all acted as chaplains to their respective groups from London, Dublin, and York.
Highlights of the week included Easter egg hunts, prayer in the Pyrenees mountains, a petting zoo, water pistol fights in the beautiful sunshine, the Torchlight Procession, face-painting for the Trust Mass, silly songs and tasty ice creams in cafés, bowling, and, of course, visiting Our Lady's Grotto.
As well as helping the children to grow in confidence and in faith, the pilgrimage gives much-needed respite to parents and carers at home.
