The British Province of Carmelite Friars

Opportunities for helping

The pilgrimage relies on volunteer pilgrims – brancardiers and handmaids (male/female general helpers), nurses,
doctors, child-carers – who accompany pilgrims in need of assistance (such as medical care and mobility), or who are willing to join the music group.

We welcome health-care professionals as well as those with no prior experience. All helpers are expected to complete a Criminal Records Bureau check.

Young helpers (aged 17 - 25) are eligable for a subsidised fare and should click here for more information. Further financial help may be available to young helpers and health care professionals from the Carmelites. Please contact the Carmelite Pilgrimage Director for more information.

Helpers' Children's Programme Information

Volunteer helpers who have registered with the pilgrimage may like to avail themselves of the childcare offered by the pilgrimage. If you are bringing children (aged 0-16) with you to Lourdes, and would like them to be part of the Helpers' Children's Programme (HCP), a childcare programme staffed by volunteers with appropriate qualifications, please contact the HCP co-ordinator directly as soon as possible, and before 31st May:
