Looking ahead to the Province Lourdes Pilgrimage
16 April 2012

On 16th April the Church celebrates the feast day of St. Bernadette Soubirous (pictured), the young French peasant woman who received 18 apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1858, leading to Lourdes becoming the largest site of Marian pilgrimage in Europe.

Every year the British Province of Carmelites makes a pilgrimage to Lourdes at the end of August with The Catholic Association. The details of the pilgrimage, including the brochure and booking forms, are available on the Lourdes section of this Carmelite website, or from the travel agent Tangney Tours.

In the coming days the Carmelites will be among those attending planning meetings for the pilgrimage, which brings approximately 800 people to Lourdes, including sick and disabled pilgrims looked after by helpers young and old.

The Province is always keen to share the unique experience of Lourdes with as many people as possible. If you would like to come on pilgrimage as a regular or assisted (sick/disabled) pilgrim, or as a volunteer helper, please get in touch with the pilgrimage director; contact details are available by clicking here.

Carmelites and friends of the Order are asked to publicise the pilgrimage as best they can; a poster for the trip (in PDF format) can be downloaded by clicking here.

Those unable to join the pilgrimage in person are invited to send in their prayer petitions for the Carmelites to take to the Grotto. To download (in PDF format) a petitions sheet please click here.
