Death of Fr. Alphie Brennan, O.Carm.
11 February 2014

It is with sadness, but trusting in the mercy of God, that the British Province of Carmelites announces the death of our brother Fr. Alphonsus Hugh Brennan, O.Carm.

Alphie was born on 15th October 1930 in Roscommon, Ireland. After completing his novitiate in Kinsale he made profession of vows as a Carmelite friar on 24th September 1950. He was ordained priest at Aylesford Priory on 20th July (Solemnity of the Prophet Elijah) 1958.

Alphie served as Prior Provincial of the then Anglo-Welsh Province from 1969 to 1975 and from 1981 to 1983, when he was elected to serve at the Order's Curia in Rome as Councillor General and Bursar General from 1983 to 1989.

During his life as a Carmelite, Alphie lived in a number of houses and served in a variety of apostolates and leadership roles.

He died peacefully in the early evening of 10th February 2014.

May he rest in peace, and rise in glory.

Fr. Alphie's body will be received at Aylesford Priory at 6pm on Sunday 16th February. His Requiem Mass will be celebrated at Aylesford at 11.30am on Monday 17th February.
