Discalced General reflects on 450 years of Teresa's reform
19 August 2012

On 19th August 2012 the Superior General of the Teresian (Discalced) Carmelites published a letter marking the 450th anniversary of the reform undertaken by St. Teresa of Jesus (of Avila).

Writing from Rome, Father Saverio Cannistrà of the Sacred Heart, said: "This year we celebrate an anniversary of particular significance: the 24th of August will see the completion of 450 years since the foundation of St. Joseph’s in Avila, and therefore too, since the beginning of Teresa’s reform."

Eventually, after Teresa's death, her 'discalced reform' split from the 'ancient observance' of the Carmelite Order; today all members of the one Carmelite Family celebrate Teresa's great achievements in the Church and in Carmel.
