Fr. David Waite laid to rest
14 June 2011

The Relic Chapel at Aylesford Priory was at full capacity on Monday 13th June for the Requiem Mass of Fr. David Waite, who died the previous week.

His brother Michael and other family members took part in the liturgy, reading Scripture texts and bringing up the offertory gifts.

The presider at the Mass was Fr. Wilfrid McGreal, Prior Provincial of the British Province of Carmelites. To read his funeral homily please click here.

Fr. David's Carmelite brothers had come from every friar community in the Province, and they were joined at the altar by Carmelites from the General Curia in Rome, Frs. Kevin Alban and Giovanni Grosso.

St. John of the Cross's poem Living Flame of Love was sung by Fr. Míceál O’Neill, prior of CISA (Saint Albert's International Centre in Rome), where David had lived for several years as Librarian. He was joined by a fellow member of the Irish Province of Carmelites who had been a student with David.

Fr. David's coffin was carried by fellow Carmelites to the Province Cemetary at Aylesford where it was laid to rest.
