The Ebor Lectures were established in 2006 to foster a dialogue between people of faith and those involved in public life. This very successful series of talks is co-sponsored by an number of Ecumenical groups including the British Province of Carmelites.

On Wednesday 10th February the Ebor Lecture will be delivered by Robert Peston, the BBC's Economics Editor who came to national prominence during the early days of the financial crisis when he broke the Northern Rock story. His lecture entitled "What have we learnt from the financial crisis?" will take place in York Minster, and over 1,200 tickets have been distributed.

As co-sponsors the Carmelite Family in York has been busy promoting the lecture series in a variety of ways. On the morning of Sunday 7th February the Prior of York, Fr. Tony Lester, O.Carm., spoke about the lecture on BBC Radio York. As a member of the Ebor Lectures organising committee, he was able to share with listeners his enthusiasm for the lecture series. The interview can be heard via the BBC iPlayer (approximately 1 hour 6 minutes in).

The next speaker in the lecture series, outspoken former parliamentarian Tony Benn, is expected to generate an even higher demand for tickets.
