Provincial leads day of recollection at Wood Hall
30 June 2012

On Sunday 24th June 2012 the Prior Provincial of the British Province of Carmelites, Fr. Wilfrid McGreal, O.Carm., led a day of recollection for Leeds Carmelite Spirituality Group. The day took place at Wood Hall, a monastery of Discalced Carmelite nuns near Wetherby in West Yorkshire.

The day began with the sisters' regular celebration of the Eucharist, at which Fr. Wilfrid presided.

the feast of the birth of St. John the Baptist,
the Provincial spoke about those who are prophetic in our own day.

After refreshments the twenty participants were welcomed by the convenor of Leeds Carmelite Spirituality Group (CSG), Johan Bergström-Allen. Father Wilfrid spoke to members of Leeds CSG and some of the sisters from Wood Hall about Blessed Titus Brandsma, the Dutch Carmelite friar who was imprisoned and killed in 1942 for his Gospel-inspired criticism of National Socialism.

Fr. Wilfrid's words were greatly appreciated by the Carmelite sisters.

Inspiration and friendship were the order of the day.

The morning concluded with a short ceremony receiving Merlin Burling into the Carmelite Third Order Secular. Merlin, originally from the Philippines, lives in Leeds  and works as a carer.

After sharing lunch together, participants were free to head home but some stayed for quiet reflections in the beautiful grounds around Wood Hall and Evening Prayer with the nuns.
