A General Chapter of the friars of the Carmelite Order is held every six years, and organisation for this important international gathering is carried out by a Preparatory Commission.
The members of the Preparatory Commission of the 2013 General Chapter met at the General Curia of the Order in Rome between 21st and 25th May 2012.
The members of the Commission are: Ben Wolbers
(Dutch Province), Desiderio García Martínez (Arago-Valentina Province) Simplisio Manyika (Zimbabwe Commissariat/Irish Province), Carl
Markelz (Most Pure Heart of Mary Province, America), Francisco de Sales Alencar (Pernambuco Province) and Artemio Jusayan (Philippines Commissariat).
The members chose as Chairman of the Commission Francis
de Sales Alencar, O.Carm., and as Secretary they chose Desiderio García Martínez, O.Carm. (who has been living in the British Province this year as part of the formation team for the international novitiate).
The Chapter will be held in Sassone, near Rome, from
the 2nd to the 21st of September 2013. The focus of its reflection is inspired by Chapter 24 of the 1995 Constitutions of the Carmelite Friars:
"A
word of hope and of salvation": living the charism and mission of
Carmel today.
