The British Province of Carmelite Friars

English Martyrs - Walworth

A busy inner-city parish English Martyrs was founded in 1890 and the Carmelite community here was established in 1980. Whilst the area provides more than a few challenges with one of the largest housing estates in Europe within the parish it also has a richness and vibrancy that comes from the multi-ethnic nature of the community. In any area where many people are "in transit" the Carmelite presence provides one of elements of stablity and commitment to the community.

The Carmelites in Walworth have a strong sense of being in ministry as members of the parish community and this shared, collaborative ministry is reflected in the life of the parish.

English Martyrs is the home of the Vocation Director and is one of the communities that people considering joining the Carmelite Friars will be invited to visit.

The parish has its own website at: http://www.englishmartyrswalworth.org
